Paternoster provides all the services one would typically receive at a chiropractic office, and because of his advanced education and training, he works with medical neurologists, neurosurgeons, spine surgeons, podiatrists, and vascular surgeons for patients suffering with complex conditions of the spine and brain. Working together with these types of health care providers provides the best treatment for the patient.
While practicing as a chiropractor at Michigan Chiropractic Specialists of Waterford, P.C., Paternoster encountered many patients suffering with neurological issues such as vertigo, dizziness, loss of balance, migraine headaches, peripheral neuropathy, head concussions and traumatic brain injuries. This peaked his interest in continuing his education to learn how to better treat these types of neurological cases.
In becoming a board eligible chiropractic neurologist, Paternoster studied the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves from a functional or physiological viewpoint, very similar to a medical neurologist. The difference is that the applications, therapies and treatment of a chiropractic neurologist do not involve the use of medications. He is able to review MRI images and CT scans to identify musculoskeletal issues of the spine and identify any pathological lesions of the brain.
